Illustrating Nature demonstration

‘Drosophila’ by Benedicte Rossi

‘Drosophila’ by Benedicte Rossi

On Saturday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., watch four artists in action as they demonstrate the art of science illustration at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. The students will demonstrate a variety of painting and drawing techniques commonly used in field sketching and science illustrations. They will be on hand to answer questions about the artwork currently in the exhibit, about the Science Illustration Certificate Program at CSUMB, and to chat about their interest in this creative field.

Each year, the Museum partners with the prestigious Science Illustration Program at California State University, Monterey Bay Extended Education to present art in the service of science. View artwork by the program's graduating students, who are sought after by scientific institutions and publications around the world, when you attend this amazing exhibit. Students from the program go on to internships and jobs at such places as Scientific American and National Geographic magazines, natural history museums, aquariums, nature centers, and research organizations worldwide.

This six-week exhibition began the first Friday in May and was made possible thanks to support from the Arts Council for Monterey Council.
